Vegas

We love blogging about living in a 55+ Community, parenting, and our doggie. You can expect to see blogs about all these topics here!

Our Story

We are John and Kathleen. Affectionately known as Cabana John and Kat by our friends, which we hope you will soon be. We currently live in Las Vegas, after a mid-life decision (not crisis) to start a new adventure in life. Our kids graduated from high school and headed off to college, so we were free to do whatever we wanted! We thought long and hard about where we wanted to go. We visited places, made lists of pros and cons, read blogs, and talked to locals. Vegas hit all the requirements, so now, here we are!

We like to think of ourselves as a fun-loving couple. We love to travel, walk the dog, have game nights with our neighbors… OK, that makes us sound really boring! We also love to be spontaneous, explore new places, and meet new people. We are just as likely to attend the musical Hamilton as we are to stand in the mosh pit at a Snoop Dog concert.

When we’re not traveling, John is balancing life as a California probate attorney and working all the events at Allegiant Stadium, including the Raider football games, concerts, and anything else held at the stadium. Kat is a Court Appointed Special Advocate for kids in the foster system (CASA) as well as a volunteer on the Disaster Action Team for the American Red Cross.

Needless to say, we are busy when we’re home. In addition to our “work” lives, we spend as much time enjoying Vegas as possible. We’re big fans of the Stanley Cup champions, the Vegas Golden Knights hockey team, as well as the two-time WNBA champions, the Las Vegas Aces. We love Vegas and post about shows, restaurants, concerts, sports, and more on the Vegas page, so be sure to check it out! I bet you’ll learn something new about Vegas. You know, it’s not just about drinking and gambling anymore!

I love Disney, especially the theme parks. Ironically, it’s not the rides that draw me there, but it’s the way I feel when I’m in

Paradise Cove, Ko Olina

Paradise Cove is a magical mix of sand, sea, and sky. It is a natural lagoon with crystal clear water. The beach is protected by a natural reef barrier, so the water is calm and relatively shallow.

Ko Olina’s Double Secret Beach

There are multiple secret beaches on Oahu. Actually, there are multiple secret beaches just within the resort area of Ko Olina. None of them are secrets anymore.

Why I Love Ko Olina’s Secret Beach

We always seem to hold our breath as we near the end of the path and peek around the corner to see if any sightseers are crowding around. That’s a sure sign that there’s a monk resting on the sand.

Things To Do In Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica

There is ONE reason to go to Manuel Antonio: the monkeys. If that’s not enough of a reason for you, then there are about a dozen other reasons to go, but that’s my favorite!
