For most of our lives, travel meant vacations. A week here, two weeks there, trying to see as much as possible before heading home.

Now we’re retired, and for the first time, we have the time to travel differently.

So that’s what Wandering Palz is about.

We’re experimenting with staying longer, moving slower and figuring out what works for us along the way. Hotels or apartments? One week or one month? What should we pack? What’s worth paying extra for? Can traveling longer actually cost less?

We don’t have all the answers.

We’re retired travelers figuring out how we want to see the world and taking you along as we learn what works, what doesn’t, what it costs and what’s actually worth it.

Hi! We’re John and Kathleen, although our friends know us as Cabana John and Kat.

We’re retired and figuring out what the next chapter of travel looks like for us. We’re not backpackers, digital nomads or travel experts—we’re figuring out what works for us as we go.

We like nice hotels and great deals, famous sights and ordinary places. We’ll spend money on experiences we think are worth it and save when we don’t.

Along the way, we’re sharing what works, what doesn’t and what we learn.
