We came to Las Vegas as tourists for years. Then we did something slightly more dramatic: We moved here. Now we get to experience both sides of Vegas—from the shows, restaurants, sports and craziness of the Strip to the neighborhoods, hiking, local hangouts and everyday life most visitors never see. This is where we share our Vegas: what we love, what surprises us, what's worth doing, and what living here is actually like. Because there's a whole lot more to Las Vegas than casinos and cocktails. Although we're certainly not opposed to either.
When our kids graduated from high school and headed off to college, Kat and I realized we could live almost anywhere. So naturally, we made spreadsheets.
We visited different cities, made pros-and-cons lists, researched everything we could think of and talked to people who actually lived in the places we were considering. And somehow Las Vegas kept winning.
We liked the weather, airport, entertainment, restaurants, sports, outdoor activities and the endless number of things to do. We also found a 55+ community that gave us something we weren’t necessarily expecting: an incredible group of friends and a real sense of community.
So we left California and made what we like to call our mid-life decision, not a mid-life crisis.
Years later, we still love living here. We go to concerts and shows, cheer on our local teams, explore restaurants, hike in the desert, spend time with friends and occasionally venture down to the Strip just to remember that millions of people save their vacation days to visit the place we call home.
Vegas isn’t perfect.
But for this chapter of our lives, it’s been a pretty great place to land.

Just kidding! It’s not a bona fide nude beach. It’s not even a clothing-optional beach. That’s just what we used to call it in our family because…
